Why We Chose Catamarans for Big Blue Fiji
When it came to selecting the perfect vessels for our charters, we knew catamarans were the ideal choice. Lagoons are renowned for being fantastic charter catamarans, offering ocean-worthy durability, solid construction, and ample space. These features make them perfect for the tropical paradise of Fiji, with plenty of outdoor space to enjoy the stunning surroundings.
Our catamarans are designed for comfort and luxury, featuring four cabins with ensuite bathrooms, including three guest cabins. They are equipped with modern amenities such as water makers and solar power, so our guests are comfortable throughout the journey. The spacious layout and superior design make our catamarans the perfect base for exploring Fiji’s beautiful islands and creating unforgettable memories.
The Beginning of Big Blue Fiji
Joe and Laura’s story is one of love and adventure. Joe first arrived in Fiji nearly 20 years ago as a dive instructor and was instantly captivated by its beauty. After a brief time away, he returned to help establish one of the most successful dive centres in the Yasawa Islands. Laura, on the other hand, visited Fiji 12 years ago and immediately knew this was where she wanted to build her life. Her dream was to create a boutique accommodation experience that showcased her passion for cooking, and Fiji felt like the perfect backdrop for this.
Their paths eventually crossed, and their shared love for the ocean and adventure led them to create Big Blue Fiji. Joe’s background is steeped in maritime tradition, coming from a family of boat builders and seafarers in the UK. He has lived and sailed across the Mediterranean on a beautiful old wooden Turkish boat called the gulet. He later went on to complete his diving instructor course and worked on super yachts all over the world, then gained extensive experience as a diving instructor with over 15,000 dives, more than 10,000 of which were in Fiji. Holding a Class 1 captain’s licence, Joe ensures the highest standards of safety and navigation on every voyage.
Laura, on the other hand, having grown up in Southern Africa and Southeast Asia, she’d developed a deep appreciation for diverse cultures, food, and the great outdoors. Her culinary skills have been honed through courses taken around the world, and her creativity shines in every dish she prepares. As a celiac, Laura is exceptionally careful with dietary requirements and loves creating vibrant, flavourful dishes. She holds a restricted Class 6 captain’s licence, adding to the dynamic duo’s expertise.
Together, they envisioned a different kind of Fijian experience – one that went beyond resorts and offered tailor-made adventures aboard their luxurious catamaran. They wanted to create something unique, where every detail, from the itinerary to the cuisine, reflected the desires of their guests.
